Wake Forest Falls in Texas-Sized Upset

The No. 18 Texas Longhorns cranked up the nation’s top-scoring offense behind freshman P.J. Tucker to roll over No. 4 Wake Forest, 94-81, on Tuesday in a nonconference game at Austin, Texas.

“A lot of people doubted us. They said we didn’t beat anybody big,” guard Royal Ivey said. “And now we just beat Wake Forest. This is a steppingstone for us.”

The Longhorns (10-2) extended their home winning streak to 24 games.

Tucker had 21 points. The Longhorns outrebounded the Demon Deacons, 42-28, shot 52% from the field and made 25 of 30 free throws.

Justin Gray led Wake Forest (11-1) with 27 points. He made eight of 18 three-point shots.

No. 5 Kentucky 67, No. 22 Mississippi State 66 -- Erik Daniels grabbed a tipped pass and scored as time expired to lift the Wildcats (11-1, 2-0 Southeastern) at Starkville, Miss.

The Bulldogs (13-1, 2-1) rallied from a 16-point deficit to take a 66-65 lead with a minute left. Gerald Fitch had 23 points, and Daniels had 16. Timmy Bowers had 20 for the Bulldogs.

No. 6 St. Joseph’s 79, Fordham 35 -- The Hawks (14-0, 4-0 Atlantic 10) opened with a 31-8 run and cruised at Philadelphia, where the Rams (4-10, 1-2) committed 10 turnovers in the first eight minutes.*

WOMEN

Notre Dame 66, No. 4 Connecticut 51 -- Jacqueline Batteast scored 23 points at South Bend, Ind., and the Irish (9-6, 2-1 Big East) handed the Huskies (11-2, 2-1) their second loss in four games.

Notre Dame held Diana Taurasi to a season-low 11 points on four-for-15 shooting.

No. 10 Kansas State 76, Oklahoma State 44 -- Kendra Wecker scored 18 points at Stillwater, Okla., where the Wildcats (12-2, 3-0 Big 12) had a 19-0 run that spanned both halves, taking much of the early fight out of Oklahoma State (6-8, 1-2).

No. 15 Colorado 59, Kansas 49 -- Emily Waner had 12 points -- all on three-point shots -- for the Buffaloes (13-2, 2-1 Big 12) at Lawrence, Kan. Crystal Kemp had 15 points for Kansas (8-6, 1-2).
