USC to Honor Champs

USC’s national champion football, women’s volleyball and men’s water polo teams will be honored today at City Hall and on campus at Cromwell Field.

The Cromwell Field rally, which is open to the public and begins at noon, will conclude a day of events that begins on the steps of City Hall at 10 a.m., and includes a caravan in double-decker buses to USC.

The football team, which finished 12-1 and won a share of the school’s ninth national title, will be presented with national championship trophies from the Football Writers Assn. of America and by the Sporting News. The Trojans received a national championship trophy from Associated Press on Jan. 5.

USC’s women’s volleyball team finished 35-0 and won its second consecutive NCAA title, its sixth overall.

The men’s water polo team finished 24-3 and won its second NCAA championship.

USC won three national titles in the fall season for the first time.

USC’s football team begins spring practice March 6.

The Trojans will conduct 15 workouts and will conclude with a spring game on April 3 at the Coliseum.
