Giving Eminent Domain a Sporting Chance

Share

Re “Next Owner Should Hit Dodgers Out of the Park,” Commentary, Jan. 25: Frank del Olmo has again dusted off his appeal to tear down Dodger Stadium. Apparently he still can’t get over the fact that Latino residents were evicted from Chavez Ravine to make room for Dodger Stadium.

That, unfortunately, is exactly how a city grows and develops. If the government can’t relocate residents via eminent domain to make room for new civic projects, we would not have as many schools, museums, shopping centers or parks. Sadly, some people have to pay the price to advance the greater good of the community.

I also take issue with Del Olmo that Dodger Stadium is aging and should be razed. Quite to the contrary, Dodger Stadium is still considered one of the crown jewels of baseball.
