Oxnard Man, 20, Is Shot to Death
A 20-year-old Oxnard man was killed in a confrontation with an unidentified gunman, police said Tuesday.
Joshua Lee Chavez died at the scene about 10:30 p.m. Monday, authorities said.
Chavez, who police believe was a gang member, was riding a bicycle near Roderick Avenue and F Street with a friend when a man got out of a passing car and asked where they were from, said Oxnard Police Cmdr. Bryan MacDonald.
One of them answered with a gang name, MacDonald said. Both then ran, but Chavez was shot more than once by the driver. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said.
The slaying was the first this year in Oxnard and the second in the county.
Police have no suspects, MacDonald said. Anyone with information can call Det. Mike Young at 385-7606 or an anonymous hotline at 982-7070.
