Hong Kong Lifts Ban on Pet Bird Imports

Hong Kong lifted a precautionary, five-month ban on pet bird imports from mainland China. Local dealers reportedly lost 90% of their business during the ban, which was aimed at preventing the spread of bird flu.
Elderly men strolling with caged songbirds in hand are a common sight in the city. Hong Kong’s bustling Mong Kok district is home to the famed Bird Garden market.
Hong Kong was not hit by an Asian bird flu outbreak this year, but neighboring mainland China was.
