Man Gets 3 1/2 Years for Cross-Burning
SACRAMENTO
A Northern California man pleaded guilty Friday to burning a cross in a black family’s front yard in January.
Christopher Dale Easely, 22, of Anderson, Calif., will be sentenced to about 3 1/2 years in federal prison under a plea agreement. His sentence was extended because the act was a hate crime, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors agreed to drop a charge that carried a 10-year mandatory sentence under a plea agreement in which Easely pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate civil rights and interference with housing rights.
