Carl A. Totemeier, 77; Leading Horticulturist, Gardening Columnist

Carl August Totemeier, for many years a leading horticulturist and gardening columnist for newspapers that included the New York Times, died July 3 at a hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. He was 77.
He served in leadership positions at horticulture schools or gardens in West Chicago, Ill.; Newark, Ohio; Oyster Bay, N.Y.; Old Westbury, N.Y.; Great River, N.Y.; and at the New York Botanical Gardens.
Totemeier wrote a garden column for the New York Times for 14 years, and for the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas Gardener.
