Good Student Seeks Challenge

Share

A winner of three of four in Argentina, Good Student will make her U.S. debut for trainer Ron McAnally in tonight’s fourth race at Hollywood Park.

Owned by Arnold Zetcher, who also races the talented 3-year-old California-bred House Of Fortune, Good Student will have only four opponents in the $54,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles.

On the lead in all of her races in South America, the 4-year-old daughter of Louis Quatorze catches a field without much pace tonight and she will break from the outside under jockey Victor Espinoza.

In her two wins on the main track in Argentina, Good Student won by a combined 13 lengths. Her other victory came by five lengths going five furlongs on the turf. The only time she was beaten was when she finished last in a Group I going a mile at Hipodromo on Sept. 13.

From the inside out, Good Student will face Honeypenny, who hasn’t won in three starts on the dirt for trainer Julio Canani; Lady Thatcher, a winner at 34-1 two races back on May 13; Letra De Cambio, who was second to Tamwheel when last seen on June 10; and Secret Corsage, who is shipping from Northern California for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Race of the day: Travelator, who has won half of her 14 starts, heads a field of six in today’s $60,000 Scotzanna at Belmont Park. Aaron Gryder will ride the 4-year-old A.P. Jet filly for Our Sugar Bear Stable and trainer Stan Hough. The field also includes Beautiful America, who has won six of 16 overall and four of five at Belmont, Literary Light, Cologny, Chirimoya and Cherokee Lite.

One for the road: In what should be a quick pace, Tale Of A Dream could be the beneficiary from behind in today’s 10th race at Solano. Victor Miranda will ride the 4-year-old Tale Of The Cat filly for Bret Layne, who trains her for a partnership, in the $34,000 optional claimer at one mile.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Good Student and Letra De Cambio in the fourth, Ballistic Angel and Jazz Ya in the fifth and Dove Mountain and Colombini in the sixth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/154. Money: Previous day/meet total: $26.40/$881. Total money bet: $1,068.
