Earthquakes End Winless Streak

Brian Ching scored twice to help the San Jose Earthquakes end a five-game winless streak with a 3-1 victory Saturday over the Colorado Rapids in front of 9,122 at San Jose.

In the 22nd minute, Landon Donovan collected a long pass and passed to Ronnie Ekelund. The Danish midfielder found Ching, who beat former San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon.

Ching gave San Jose (5-6-5) a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute after tapping in a cross from Ramiro Corrales. Donovan scored San Jose’s final goal from six yards in the 55th minute.

Second-half substitute Seth Trembly scored for Colorado (5-5-7) with a blast in the 83rd minute.

Kansas City 1, Dallas 0 -- Tony Meola made three saves for his MLS-record 55th career shutout, and Diego Gutierrez scored in the 42nd minute to lead the Wizards (9-4-4) over the Burn (5-6-5) in front of 6,942 at Dallas.

Meola, the MLS leader this season with seven shutouts, helped Kansas City push its unbeaten streak to eight games and move within one point of the first-place Galaxy in the Western Conference.

New York/New Jersey 1, Chicago 1 -- Amado Guevara scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute to give the MetroStars (6-6-5) a tie with the Fire (4-6-7) in front of 20,754 at Chicago. Damani Ralph scored his eighth goal for Chicago.

Columbus 1, New England 1 -- Kyle Martino scored in the 45th minute for the Crew (5-5-5) and Clint Dempsey scored in the 31st for the Revolution (4-8-5) in front of 13,373 at Columbus, Ohio.
