‘Town’ tour is thrown into disarray
What’s happening to the touring version of the “Wonderful Town” revival?
Question marks surrounded it Monday. Co-producer Barry Weissler said that Lucie Arnaz would star in the tour, but Arnaz said she had been told of the tour’s cancellation a few weeks ago and has committed to a cabaret booking at Orange County Performing Arts Center during what would have been the tour’s first engagement.
Weissler confirmed that the withdrawal of 25 bookings controlled by Clear Channel Entertainment created “a huge hole” in the tour but said “there will be a tour.” Clear Channel, meanwhile, released a statement saying that “full casting of the touring production was not concrete enough to meet our immovable deadlines.”
“Wonderful Town” is booked into the Ahmanson Theatre Oct. 29 through Dec. 19 and is scheduled for the Orange County Performing Arts Center next year.
