Dustin Hermanson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Barry Bonds hit a three-run homer, helping the San Francisco Giants end the St. Louis Cardinals’ five-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory Friday night at St. Louis.

Hermanson (4-3) yielded only a fourth-inning walk to Albert Pujols before Pujols’ 28th homer ended his no-hit bid with one out in the seventh. Bonds never moved in left field as the ball sailed far above him -- a drive estimated at 434 feet.

Hermanson, released by the Cardinals last June, gave up two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one for his first victory since June 27.

The Giants, playing the Cardinals for the first time this season, are 6-1 against St. Louis in the last two seasons. The Cardinals lost for only the second time in 14 home games, and have won 15 of 18 overall.

Bonds’ 25th homer of the season, and 683rd of his career, gave the Giants a 6-0 lead in the seventh. He had been hitless in eight at-bats against Jeff Suppan (9-6) before driving a 3-1 fastball over the right-field wall for his first homer in five days.

Ray Durham also homered for the Giants, who ended the Cardinals’ 27-inning shutout streak with two runs in the fourth. The Cardinals shut out the Milwaukee Brewers the previous two games.

Suppan failed in a bid to make the Cardinals the only team in the majors with four 10-game winners -- they’re already the only team with three.

In seven innings, Suppan gave up six runs and nine hits to end his four-game winning streak. The loss was his first since June 6 against the Houston Astros.

Milwaukee 7, Houston 6 -- Roger Clemens tied his season high by giving up three home runs, and the Brewers ended their four-game losing streak on Wes Helms’ ninth-inning sacrifice fly at Houston.

Clemens, who didn’t get a decision, left trailing, 5-0, after yielding five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Clemens walked one and struck out seven, raising his career total to 4,232. He remains stuck at 321 wins, two behind Nolan Ryan and Don Sutton for 12th place on the career list.

Colorado 8, Arizona 2 -- Vinny Castilla broke up Casey Fossum’s no-hit bid with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, then added another two-run homer in the eighth at Phoenix to help send the Diamondbacks to a team-record 12th consecutive loss.

After walking two batters with one out in the first, Fossum (2-9) retired 17 consecutive batters before walking Todd Helton leading off the seventh. Castilla then homered to left. Jeromy Burnitz hit another two-run homer later in the inning, a 445-foot drive to right-center to give the Rockies a 4-1 lead.

Pittsburgh 6, Cincinnati 3 -- Oliver Perez (6-4) struck out 11 in seven innings, and Craig Wilson drove in two runs to lead the Pirates at Pittsburgh.

The Pirates are 6-2 since the All-Star break and have won 18 of 24. They improved to 23-23 at PNC Park after starting 9-19 at home.

In 56 starts, Perez has 10 outings with 10 strikeouts or more. He leads the majors this season with 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

Montreal 2, Florida 1 -- At Montreal, Orlando Cabrera’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning ended the Expos’ 42-inning scoreless streak against the Marlins, and Jose Vidro hit a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth.

It was the longest such streak in the majors since the Angels shut out Cleveland over 44 consecutive innings in 1966, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Chicago 5, Philadelphia 1 -- Moises Alou, Sammy Sosa and Derrek Lee homered at Philadelphia to back Kerry Wood (5-3), and the Cubs won their third in a row.

Alou has six homers and 13 RBIs in his last nine games. Lee’s homer was his fifth in nine games. Sosa hit a two-run shot in the eighth, a 445-foot drive to center.

Wood improved to 2-0 with a 1.76 earned-run average since returning from nearly two months on the disabled list because of a strained right triceps.

Phillie first baseman Jim Thome, who leads the major leagues with 31 homers, didn’t play because of tendinitis in his right index finger.

Atlanta at New York -- The game was postponed because of rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sept. 13 at Shea Stadium. That means the Mets and Braves will play a five-game series from Sept. 13-16.
