Fred McGriff’s first homer this season sent the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on their way to a rare road win.

McGriff’s two-run shot, his 492nd homer, opened the scoring and the Devil Rays beat the Minnesota Twins, 7-3, Monday at Minneapolis.

McGriff, making his second start for the Devil Rays since he was brought up from the minors Friday, homered for the first time since Sept. 2. The homer against Seth Greisinger (2-4) landed in the first row of the upper deck in right field.

Asked if he knew the ball was gone when he hit it, McGriff replied, “No, that was my first homer in a long time, so you never know.”

Seattle 6, Toronto 2 -- Ichiro Suzuki had three hits at Seattle to give him 50 in May.

Suzuki became the first player since Pete Rose to have two 50-plus hit months in his career. He had 51 in August 2001. Rose had 52 in July 1973 and 51 in September 1979. Suzuki closed out the month 50 for 125 (.400).

Baltimore 13, Boston 4 -- Rodrigo Lopez had his best game as a starter and B.J. Surhoff had four of Baltimore’s 16 hits at Boston.

Detroit 8, Kansas City 4 -- Eric Munson and Carlos Guillen hit two homers each at Detroit, the first multihomer game of their careers.
