Kielty’s Homer Wins It in 12th

Bobby Kielty hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning, lifting the Oakland Athletics to a 6-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night at Oakland.

Erubiel Durazo led off the 12th with a sharp single to right before Kielty hit a 3-and-2 pitch off Neal Cotts (0-3) that just cleared the left-field fence.

Justin Duchscherer (3-1) went three innings, striking out three and walking two to earn the victory.

Chicago’s Jose Valentin tied the game, 4-4, in the ninth with a two-out homer, his ninth of the season, on a 3-and-1 pitch from Jim Mecir, who blew his first save in three chances.

Carlos Lee singled twice for the White Sox to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest current streak in the majors.

Oakland’s Eric Chavez left the game in the 11th with a bruised right hand after getting hit by a pitch from Damaso Marte.

Toronto 6, Seattle 5 -- Vernon Wells hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to help the Blue Jays defeat the Mariners at Seattle without scheduled starter Roy Halladay.

Halladay, the AL Cy Young Award winner, was scratched because he experienced soreness in his right shoulder when playing catch before the game. The Blue Jays hope he can start Sunday in Oakland.

Texas 6, Cleveland 5 -- Rod Barajas hit his second homer of the game with one out in the 12th inning at Cleveland and the Rangers ended the Indians’ four-game winning streak. Barajas, who also homered in the third, drove a 1-1 pitch from Rick White (2-1) into the Indians’ center-field bullpen for his seventh homer.

New York 8, Baltimore 7 -- Derek Jeter hit two solo homers, Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada had two-run shots at New York and the Yankees beat the Orioles again. Coming off last week’s three-game sweep in which they outscored Baltimore 41-17 at Camden Yards, New York backed Mike Mussina (6-4) in his fifth straight victory.

Minnesota 16, Tampa Bay 4 -- Corey Koskie hit two of the Twins’ five home runs at Minneapolis for a victory over the Devil Rays. Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones also homered and Carlos Silva (6-3) pitched seven strong innings for Minnesota, which scored a season-high in runs.

Kansas City 5, Detroit 3 -- Mike Sweeney hit a go-ahead single in the ninth for the Royals at Detroit. Jason Grimsley (3-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.
