Bootleg And Susy Tries to End Drought
Bootleg And Susy, who won three races late in 2003 and earlier this year for Craig Robertson, will make her first start since being re-claimed by the trainer in tonight’s second, a $4,000 claimer for fillies and mares at 4 1/2 furlongs.
A 5-year-old Allen’s Prospect mare, Bootleg And Susy hasn’t come close in three starts since being claimed away from Robertson but could get back on track after being tagged for $3,200 on May 27.
Guillermo Gutierrez, who was aboard for the three wins, retains the mount and they will break from the inside post in the field of seven.
The only two horses in the race coming off wins are Seattle Quake, who went wire-to-wire under apprentice jockey Maggie Carter on May 16, and Doce Memoria, who has won her last two after beginning her career with consecutive losses.
The picks: 1. Red Hot Sparks. 2. Bootleg And Susy. 3. A Dancer. 4. Hey Dale. 5. Lynk. 6. Percy. 7. Sign N On. 8. Mimi Cartel. 9. Pure Lee Dash.
Four! Red Hot Sparks in the first, Bootleg And Susy, Brite F X and Seasoned Pro in the second, A Dancer, She Doesn’t Dance and The Rainbow Flyer in the third and Hey Dale, This Memorys Mine and Ought To Be Star in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Twin Streaks gets jockey Alex Bautista for his debut in the fifth. Catalina Cartel should improve the second time out for trainer Paul Jones in the eighth.
