Those Private Pools Are Nice, but What About the Public?

I couldn’t help but be envious while looking at the lovely views and opulent pools in your Home Design Issue (“Pools Unlimited,” May 16). There seems to be no finer place in the world than Southern California. But having recently read that many public pools will shut down for lack of funds, I also felt sad. Would wealthy people really lose their pools if they paid a little more in taxes so that poor people could cool down in the summer heat?
