Woman Gets 15 Years to Life for Killing Daughter

A woman who pleaded guilty to murdering her 13-month-old daughter was sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life in state prison.
Sheriff’s deputies found the severely injured daughter of Yanira Mora, 23, at a home in the 10500 block of Firmanov Avenue near Inglewood on June 5, 2002. The child, Violet Viamonte, died at a nearby hospital.
Mora, who pleaded guilty in April to second-degree murder, was sentenced by Torrance Superior Court Judge Mark Arnold.
