From Times Wire Reports

Teachers assigned to watch the swimming pool during a field trip to a Windsor water park where a seventh-grader drowned Tuesday were specifically advised to keep watch for students who might be unable to swim, according to a memo released Thursday by Santa Rosa City Schools.

“Scan the bottom of the pool FREQUENTLY,” the two-page memo said. “Watch for wall crawlers -- students who cannot swim, but crawl down the wall to the deep end, also watch for roughhousing.”

But it’s unclear what, if anything, the assigned instructor from Rincon Valley Middle School observed before another swimmer noticed the lifeless body of Yang Ko Lim, 12, submerged in 5 to 7 feet of water Tuesday. School officials have declined to comment on the drowning.
