Suriname Surprises Guatemala, 1-1

Striker Dennis Purperhart scored in the 16th minute to lead host Suriname to a surprising 1-1 tie against Guatemala in a first-leg CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match Saturday at Paramaribo.
Guatemala, which got a goal in the 35th minute from Dwight Pesarosi, played without injured striker Carlos Ruiz of the Galaxy in a matchup of teams vying for spots from the region covering North and Central America and the Caribbean.
The return leg will be in Guatemala on June 20.

Cuba 2, Costa Rica 2 -- Lester More twice scored tying goals, including one in the 76th minute, to allow host Cuba to draw Costa Rica in a first-leg match at Havana.
Costa Rica got goals from Douglas Sequeira in the 13th minute and Alvaro Saborio in the 43rd minute.

Haiti 1, Jamaica 1 -- Jean-Phillipe Peguero’s penalty kick four minutes into the second half helped host Haiti salvage a tie against Jamaica in front of 30,000 at the Orange Bowl in Miami. Marlon King scored Jamaica’s goal in the 38th minute.

Honduras 2, Netherlands Antilles 1 -- David Suazo scored two goals in the first 23 minutes to lead visiting Honduras at Willemstad, Curacao. Brutil Hose scored for Netherlands Antilles.
