Ventura will close Grant Park to vehicles at dusk after a Santa Paula man was stabbed there this week.

Two groups of people were at the park about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when an argument broke out, Ventura police said.

A woman yelled a gang name, then stabbed Thorin Moulder in the abdomen. Moulder was treated at a Ventura hospital, and the woman had not been arrested by Friday, officials said.

Tracy Long, president of the conservancy that operates the hilltop park, said that employees of the city’s parks department would soon begin closing a gate to a road leading to the property during their daily rounds.

The roads up to the park belong to the city, but a chunk of the park was bought late last year by a preservation group called San Buenaventura Heritage. The Grant Park Conservancy operates the park.

Long said Friday that the city already had been closing one of the park’s two lots nightly. She expects that the closure of the other will send gatherings elsewhere.

“I don’t really think there will be much legitimate use of that property after dark,” she said.
