Gunman Kills Officer Outside Wal-Mart

A gunman in a van in a Wal-Mart parking lot killed one police officer and critically wounded another, prompting an hours-long standoff that trapped customers in the Grand Prairie store for hours before the attacker was found dead in the van.
Sgt. Gregory Hunter, 54, was killed and officer Bruce Seix, 44, was wounded when they stopped to check on the vehicle, which had been parked all night in the lot.
The dead man was identified as Timothy Joe Erwin.
