And on a sour note ...

As a longtime Los Angeles Philharmonic subscriber, I can only applaud Mark Swed’s “Take It to the Next Level” (June 13). I cannot argue with his issues, but I do have a few additions.

The stench of old food that greets us as we enter the building and follows to the doors of the auditorium is not pleasant, but it does go right along with the Miami Motel pattern of the carpeting and upholstery.

Swed is right on as to the name of the auditorium. The opening of the Disney Hall and the grocery workers’ strike coincided last fall, and to see the Burkle name on the auditorium when he couldn’t afford health care for Ralphs employees is an insult to concertgoers; I do realize that the naming of the hall was contingent upon a large donation.

My final comment on the Walt Disney Concert Hall (a pretentious name if ever there was one) is that the emperor truly doesn’t have any clothes.
