Two assailants bound an elderly Laguna Hills couple then stole their money and jewelry in a home invasion robbery Monday night.

The victims, an 87-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife, were not hurt but were “pretty shaken,” said Orange County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

Authorities said two men entered a rear patio door of a home in the 24900 block of Southport Street about 10 p.m. Monday. Their faces were covered with a mesh material, and one man had a handgun.

The men bound the couple’s hands and feet and forced them to lie on the floor, before they fled with an unknown amount of money and jewelry, Amormino said. Witnesses reported seeing them run from the home carrying pillowcases filled with items.

The husband managed to free himself and his wife, and then called 911. Sheriff’s helicopters assisted in the search for several hours, but no suspects were found. An investigation is ongoing.

“I believe they probably were specific targets,” Amormino said, “probably because of their age.”
