Union Leaders Start Sleep-In at City Offices
Leaders of a union representing 10,000 blue-collar workers at City Hall said Friday they have begun to camp at the offices of the city’s top negotiator in hopes of spurring round-the-clock talks to reach a new contract.
The negotiation team showed up at city offices with sleeping bags and pillows and talked to officials after-hours on Friday night, said Julie Butcher, general manager of the Service Employee International Union, Local 347.
The union’s contract expires June 30, and city officials have said there is no money for raises.
