Khabibulin Stops the Avalanche, 3-0
Nikolai Khabibulin needed to make only 16 saves Monday night to post the 35th shutout of his career and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Colorado Avalanche, 3-0, at Denver for its fifth consecutive victory.
“I wasn’t tested,” Khabibulin said. “We played great defense and that’s part of it. This was one of the best defensive games I’ve been a part of.”
Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis scored third-period goals, and Brad Richards also scored for the Lightning, which set a franchise record for road victories in a season at 18.
Montreal 2, New Jersey 1 -- Jason Ward scored a power-play goal with 24 seconds left in regulation and the host Canadiens extended their season-high winning streak to five games.
Jose Theodore stopped 28 shots for the Canadiens, who are 6-1 in their last seven games.
Chicago 2, Nashville 2 -- Adam Munro earned a tie in his first NHL game, stopping 33 shots for the Blackhawks at Nashville. Chicago tied the score with 1:44 remaining in regulation when Matt Keith scored his first goal this season.
