DePaul Upends No. 13 Cincinnati

Drake Diener and Delonte Holland scored 17 points each and Quemont Greer had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead DePaul to a 68-65 upset victory over No. 13 Cincinnati on Thursday night at Rosemont, Ill.

It was DePaul’s first victory over a team ranked this high since December 2000, when the Blue Demons (18-8, 11-4 Conference USA) defeated then-No. 10 Missouri.

The Bearcats (20-6, 11-4) fell a game behind Memphis, but can earn a share of the title if they beat the Tigers on Saturday at Cincinnati.

Chris Thomas scored 19 points as Notre Dame (15-11, 8-7 Big East) held Georgetown (13-13, 4-11) to 28% shooting in a 61-48 victory at South Bend, Ind. The Hoyas have lost seven in a row, their longest skid since the 1971-72 season.

WOMEN

No. 7 Louisiana Tech 82, Rice 70 -- Erica Smith-Taylor scored 21 points as the Lady Techsters (23-2, 16-1 Western Athletic) won their 15th in a row with a victory over the Owls (18-8, 15-2) at Ruston, La.

No. 18 Minnesota 68, Northwestern 47 -- Janel McCarville had 15 points to lead the Golden Gophers (21-7) to a victory over the Wildcats (8-20) in the first round of the Big Ten Conference tournament at Indianapolis.

No. 20 Georgia 73, South Carolina 42 -- Alexis Kendrick scored 20 points as the Bulldogs (20-9) dominated the Gamecocks (10-18) in a first-round game of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Nashville.

No. 21 Vanderbilt 60, Kentucky 41 -- Abi Ramsey scored 14 points as the Commodores (21-7) routed the Wildcats (11-17) in a first-round game of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Nashville.

Louisville Coach Rick Pitino was given a contract extension through 2010. Pitino is 63-27 in three years with the Cardinals.... Saint Louis’ leading scorer, Reggie Bryant, left the team to be with his seriously ill father. Coach Brad Soderberg said it was not clear how long Bryant would be away.
