12 Accused of Unlicensed Contracting in Fire Zone
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Twelve people have been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contracting without a license in a disaster zone, Dist. Atty. Bonnie Dumanis said Monday.
The 12 were caught after a sting operation at a home damaged in October by the Cedar fire, which destroyed 3,200 homes and burned 300,000 acres -- the worst fire in state history. Officials warned residents to be careful of unlicensed contractors offering unreasonably inexpensive or quick building projects.
