In his Counterpunch article of March 8 (“Shaking His Head Over Oscar Nod to Nazi Auteur”), Doug McIntyre disapproves of the acknowledgement during the recent Oscar ceremony of Leni Riefenstahl’s passing. Bemoaning the show’s narrow scope of concern, he says that Riefenstahl “was undoubtedly a brilliant filmmaker, but....” Actually, Riefenstahl was being recognized only for cinema, not humanitarianism. Similarly, a golf tournament is won by achieving the lowest score, irrespective of one’s politics.
