City Councilwoman Jan Perry announced plans Thursday to improve safety at the Slauson Recreation Center, where a man was killed last week when someone fired into an afternoon soccer game.

Perry vowed to improve lighting and install bulletproof glass around light fixtures, install video surveillance cameras, open a field office for police at the center and immediately remove graffiti.

“This ruthless, systematic cycle of violence cannot and will not be tolerated,” Perry said in a statement.
