Prosecutors Disqualified in Counterfeit Case

From Times Staff Reports

A state appeals court has disqualified prosecutors in a fraud case because they let Xerox Corp., the victim of the alleged fraud, get too involved in the investigation.

The 2nd District Court of Appeals ruled that the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office could not continue with the case because Xerox attorneys had conducted activities usually done by prosecutors, such as gathering evidence.

The defendants were indicted in 2001 on charges of conspiracy to make, sell or possess for sale counterfeit Xerox products.
