A man who fatally stabbed a woman in her apartment Sunday was shot and killed by San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies who saw the attack through the woman’s kitchen window.

Deputies responded to a call at an apartment complex around 4:30 a.m., said Robin Haynel, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.

When deputies arrived, they looked through the window and saw Kayne Reodica, 19, of Chino Hills stabbing Deborah Ann Robinson, 49, Haynel said.

Deputies broke the window and told Reodica to put down his weapon, Haynel said. Reodica allegedly refused, and deputies fired, missing Reodica as he ran to another room.

Deputies broke down the door and found Reodica in a rear bedroom still armed with the knife.

He refused to drop the weapon, even after deputies directed pepper spray at him, Haynel said.

When he advanced with the knife, they fired, Haynel said. Reodica was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputies found Robinson’s daughter locked in a bathroom. She was unhurt. Her name was not immediately released.

Robinson, who had multiple stab wounds, was transported to Chino Valley Medical Center. She died around 5:15 a.m.
