From Times Wire Reports

With more than 30 developments planned, the city’s fire chief is asking county officials to halt further building until improved safety measures are in place to address the threat of wildfires.

Vista Fire Chief Gary Fisher said he was concerned about the lack of emergency escape routes for the numerous developments planned in the area north of San Diego, which is surrounded by thick brush.

Fisher said he also was asking the Vista Fire Protection District board and county land-use officials to rescind approval of developments yet to break ground. He said he wanted to ensure that they met safety standards and included two ways in and out.
