Blues Make Their Push

Doug Weight scored his first goal in 18 games, and Chris Osgood got his 41st career shutout to brighten the playoff hopes of the St. Louis Blues, who defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 1-0, Tuesday night at St. Louis.

The Blues won their fourth game in a row to remain in seventh place in the Western Conference playoff race with 89 points.

Edmonton, beaten for the first time in more than a month, has 87 points and dropped to ninth place, one spot out of the playoffs. Nashville also has 87 points but has one more victory.

Nashville 5, Chicago 2 -- Vladimir Orszagh, Martin Erat and David Legwand each had a goal and an assist at Nashville.

New Jersey 5, New York Rangers 0 -- Martin Brodeur got his 75th shutout, and the Devils defeated the Rangers at East Rutherford, N.J., for Coach Pat Burns’ 500th victory.

Boston 3, Carolina 2 -- Sergei Samsonov scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and the Bruins moved into sole possession of first place in the Northeast Division.

Washington 4, Pittsburgh 2 -- Trent Whitfield had two goals at Washington to help goalie Matt Yeats earn his first NHL victory.
