Well Blows, Spewing Natural Gas and Water

An oil well near Buttonwillow, in Kern County, blew its top, sending natural gas and water gushing 100 feet into the air. A well-control company, Boots & Coots of Texas, was called in and had the leak sealed Friday.
It was the second time in two weeks that a Kern County well had blown out. This one sprayed the surrounding alfalfa fields, and no one was hurt. The last one, in the Rosedale area, coated several houses with smelly, sticky crude oil.
