From Times Staff Reports

Hollywood film and TV writers plan to continue bargaining today with studios on a new labor contract after the two sides let their old three-year pact lapse shortly after midnight.

Negotiators have been discussing such issues as improving healthcare benefits, better pay scales and whether studios should share a bigger slice of their revenues from the burgeoning DVD market.

The last time the two groups bargained, in 2001, they let their contract expire before reaching a new agreement.
