Frida Margarita

Where: Frida, 236 S. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, $9

The Frida Margarita offers an unusual take on the classic cocktail by adding chamoy, a Mexican berry-colored juice made from fermented apricots, chili powder and other spices, to the mix of Patron anejo tequila and Triple Sec. There’s salt on the rim of the glass, and the drink straddles the delicate line, essential to a margarita, between sweet and sour, but with extra kick from the chamoy. It can be had frozen like a bright-red Slurpee for grown-ups, but on the rocks you’ll find that the flavors -- from ripe cherry to pepper -- come through stronger.
