Unchristian?
In the L.A. Times’ continuing crusade against the film “The Passion of the Christ,” we now have a new entry in the list of “horrors” this film apparently produces. First it was going to launch a new wave of anti-Semitism (I am still waiting for signs of that), now it makes people feel “unchristian” if they don’t go see it (“Feeling the Sting of the ‘Passion’ Buzz,” by Geneive Abdo and Lou Carlozo, May 3).
The vast majority of pastors who recommend the film usually include the following talking points: that if someone is sensitive to violence in films, they should not go. That no film is a substitute for the Bible and that this film, although well made, is not the word of God. I do not deny the hurt feelings of the few individuals quoted in the article, but those examples cited are not the norm and are not representative of the vast majority of the community that endorses this film.
