A ‘Fast Man’ for the Times

Share

Like Total Impact in the Mervyn LeRoy Handicap, Hombre Rapido is back to defend his title in the $150,000 Los Angeles Times Handicap, one of three graded stakes on the card today at Hollywood Park.

Unlike Total Impact, who has run five times since his victory in the 2003 LeRoy, Hombre Rapido, a gelded son of Falstaff, has been on the bench since he beat Publication in the Grade III sprint.

The 7-year-old will be seeking his sixth lifetime win and third in six tries at Hollywood Park in the six-furlong race, racing Pohave, Hasty Kris, Seattle Shamus, Cayoke, Summer Service, TS Eliot, Kewen and Marino Marini. Revello and Our Bobby V. are likely to scratch after being entered in another race Sunday.

Race of the day: Grey Traffic, who beat maidens by 9 1/2 lengths in her debut April 4 at Santa Anita, is among nine 3-year-old fillies in the $200,000 Nassau County Breeders’ Cup at Belmont Park.

One for the road: Uncle Camie looked good winning at Aqueduct on April 23 and can come right back in today’s fifth, a $47,000 allowance at six furlongs, at Belmont. Richard Migliore will ride the 4-year-old colt, who will be pressing probable pacesetter A One Rocket from the outside.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Gassan Royal in the seventh, Damar Wayne in the eighth, Buckland Manor, Olmodavor, Total Impact and Even The Score in the ninth and Courtnall, Chosen Hero, Nothing But Truth, Rubiano’s Wish and Sultano in the 10th.

Winners (through Thursday): Previous day/meet total: 2/29. Money: Previous day/meet total: $10.40/$163.20. Total money bet: $206.
