City leaders in Healdsburg are considering a proposal that would ask voters to approve an increase in the city’s hotel tax.

The City Council might put the increase on the Nov. 2 ballot. Unlike a tax for a specific use that needs a two-thirds majority, a general purpose tax needs only a simple majority.

Increasing the tax on the daily bill of occupants of Healdsburg’s 320 hotel rooms from 10% to 12% would raise about $160,000 a year, City Manager Chet Wystepek said.
