Court Rules in Favor of Police Officer’s Firing
The city of Pasadena and its police chief did not violate the 1st Amendment when an officer who had written a book about the Police Department was fired, according to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
A judgment issued last month favored the city and Police Chief Bernard Melekian, saying former Officer Naum Ware was fired for violating the city’s policies.
Melekian said Tuesday that Ware was dismissed in 2000 because the book contained “hateful” speech toward homosexuals, women and people of various ethnic backgrounds.
