From Times Wire Reports

After a passionate debate in the House of Commons, British lawmakers voted overwhelmingly against banning parents from spanking their children.

Some lawmakers argued to outlaw even mild spanking, saying children should have the same legal protection as adults from being struck.

Lawmakers voted 424-75 against an outright ban. They will vote later on a government proposal to allow mild physical punishment but make it easier to prosecute parents who abuse a child physically or mentally.
