Closures in local forests
Between fire and ice, Southern California’s national forests can’t get a break.
Fire risk closed 90% of the Angeles National Forest in October. It reopened briefly before heavy snow closed much of it again.
“Pretty much everything above 6,000 feet is all snowed in,” says Forest Service spokesman Stanton Florea.
Campgrounds closed in the Angeles include: Bandido, Sulphur Springs, Coulter, Lightning Point, Crystal Lake, Deer Flats, Coldbrook, Manker Flats Blue Ridge, Guffy, Table Mountain, Mountain Oak and Lake.
In the San Bernardino National Forest, only Serrano, Barton Flats and Dark Canyon remain open, perhaps until Monday.
