Angels, City Will Meet

Share

Angel President Dennis Kuhl on Wednesday accepted an invitation to meet with officials from the city of Anaheim, a meeting city leaders hope can defuse a potential legal showdown with the team.

City spokesman John Nicoletti said no date has been set for the meeting.

The City Council, concerned by the silence from Angel owner Arte Moreno and Commissioner Bud Selig over Moreno’s interest in renaming his team the Los Angeles Angels, voted Tuesday to sue if the team proceeds with the name change.

The Angel Stadium lease requires the team to be called the Anaheim Angels. The council also voted to explore a possible lawsuit charging the team with already violating the lease by removing the city name from uniforms, merchandise, tickets and ads.
