A speeding passenger train derailed on a curve, fell into a ravine and flipped several times in the northern Philippines, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 118 others, officials said.

Four of the Manila-bound train’s five cars fell into the 40-foot-deep ravine in Padre Burgos, a town in Quezon province, about 90 miles southeast of Manila, police official Leo Kison said. Police said the train had about 400 people aboard.

Radio reports said local residents helped rescue survivors, pulling some from the ravine with ropes.
