One of the many faces of Eve

With a music career, a self-titled television show and her own fashion line, Eve has plenty to keep her busy without adding “dramatic actress” to her resume. Before her role as a nosy and vindictive office assistant in “The Woodsman,” the 26-year-old wasn’t much thinking about it, either.

Taking time from her lunch break during a recent day of shooting her TV show, she explained, “At the time they asked me if I was interested, I was shocked. Especially because I’d only done ‘Barbershop’ and ‘XXX,’ so for someone to offer me a part in a dramatic movie made me feel like maybe they see something I don’t. I figured, ‘Why not try it?’ It was exciting for me.”

Though one movie set can seem like another, for Eve the experience was a new one.

“It was independent, so it was more gritty,” she said. “And being able to act with Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, just watching them, was such a learning experience. They are true professionals. As soon as the director calls ‘Action,’ they are super into it. You have to be up on your game when you’re with them.”

The movie is due out Dec. 24.

Although Eve is energized by her recent foray into dramatic work and is certainly eager for an even deeper, more demanding part, she is also aware that she is largely at the whims of the roles she is offered and how others see her.

As she explains, “There are typical parts, I think stereotypical parts, that get offered to a lot of artists that come over from the entertainment world, especially coming from hip-hop. I always get ‘This girl wants to be a singer’ or ‘wants to be a rapper’ and I’m like, ‘I did that.’

“I always pass on those.”
