Bob Allen, 84; World-Champion Trapshooter
Bob Allen, 84, world-champion trapshooter, died Wednesday in a one-car accident when his car plunged off a bridge near Logan, Iowa.
The expert marksman earned two world all-around trapshooting championships. He was also a member of the U.S. team that scored a victory in 1951 at the Match of Nations in Monte Carlo.
Allen’s other accomplishments included 72 statewide championships in 12 states, victories in Cuba, Mexico, Portugal, France, Italy and Mozambique and 15 awards at the annual Grand American competition in Vandalia, Ohio.
He used the $40,000 he won in a shooting championship in France in 1946 to start his own business, Bob Allen Sportswear in Des Moines. The company is now a division of Boyt Harness Co.
