Island Fashion, who won two Grade I races during Santa Anita’s winter-spring meet, will make her first start since finishing far back in a Group I in Tokyo in June in today’s $250,000 Lady’s Secret Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Santa Anita.

The Lady’s Secret, a Grade II, is one of three stakes on the card. The others are the $250,000 Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship and the $200,000 Norfolk.

Owned by Jeffrey Nielsen’s Everest Stables Inc. and trained by Marcelo Polanco, Island Fashion is using the Lady’s Secret, which is run at 1 1/16 miles, as a prep for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Oct. 30.

Roman Ruler, the 2-year-old Fusaichi Pegasus colt trained by Bob Baffert for Fog City Stable, will be a prohibitive favorite in the 1 1/16 -mile Norfolk.

Race of the day: Carribean Cruiser, a 2-year-old bred in New York, goes for his fourth consecutive win when he takes on seven others in the seven-furlong $100,000 Bertram F. Bongard today at Belmont Park.

One for the road: Sailaway could rebound for trainer Shug McGaughey in today’s seventh, a $50,000 allowance at 1 3/8 miles on the turf, at Belmont.

Exotically speaking: A pick five using Bayamo in the fifth, Summer Wind Dancer and Island Fashion in the sixth, Roman Ruler in the seventh, Hortense, Dominiques Darling, Seeking The Heart and Summer Scene in the eighth and Greg’s Gold, Budget Surplus and Watch Over Me in the ninth.
