* WorldCom Inc. workers who lost tens of millions of dollars in their 401(k) retirement plans when the firm collapsed may proceed as a class against the former plan trustee, Merrill Lynch & Co., a U.S. judge ruled.

* AMR Corp.’s American Airlines will end its two daily nonstop flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Long Beach on Nov. 1 and reassign the airplanes to support expansion in Texas. Separately, Continental Airlines Inc. said it planned to start daily nonstop service from Los Angeles International Airport to three Mexican destinations beginning Dec. 16, pending government approval.

* Woodland Hills-based Zenith National Insurance Corp. estimated its reinsurance losses from this year’s four Florida hurricanes at $10 million to $12 million for the third quarter, or 41 to 49 cents a share. Its shares fell 19 cents to $43.01 on the NYSE.

* Japanese game maker Nintendo Co. raised its earnings outlook for its fiscal first half, saying a strong U.S. dollar had helped its business. The video game console and software maker said it expected a profit of $414.4 million on sales of $1.67 billion for the April-to-September period. In May, the company had forecast a profit of $226 million on sales of $1.8 billion.
