Man Dies in Fire Likely Caused by Cigarette
From a Times Staff Writer
A 78-year-old man confined to his bed with an oxygen tank died Saturday in a fire that was apparently caused by a cigarette, authorities said.
Los Angeles firefighters arrived about 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Avenue home in El Sereno and found the bed in flames.
“He was beyond our help,” said city Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The fire is being considered accidental pending an investigation, Humphrey said.
