‘Diamonds’ in an Icelandic setting

At Jokulsarlon, home of the glacial lagoon on the eastern coast of Iceland, chunks of ice wash up on an Atlantic shore covered with black lava sand. “The saltwater washes the ice clean, so it looks like diamonds,” says L.A. reader Lisa Cole, who took this picture at 5:30 one August morning. “It was one of the prettiest things I’ve seen.”
