Police Foundation Honors 4 Officers for Community Work
Hundreds of community leaders, elected officials, law enforcement authorities and guests gathered Sunday to honor philanthropic work by four Los Angeles police officers.
The Los Angeles Police Foundation’s fifth March on Crime ceremony and fundraiser at the Police Academy in Elysian Park spotlighted officers whose community work has demonstrated a commitment to helping at-risk youth and the homeless.
Hollenbeck station Det. Jose Marcos Espinoza, a 26-year veteran of the police force, was honored with a Crystal Angel Award for founding a scholarship fund and a food delivery program for the homeless.
Other Crystal Angel recipients were: Metropolitan Division Officer Jimmie Barlow, a 19-year veteran who works with Boy Scouts and homeless youth; Metropolitan Division Officer Ronnie Daniels, a 15-year veteran who works with soccer programs; and Devonshire Division Officer Michael Scott, a four-year veteran who has raised funds for youth programs.
The police foundation, a non-profit independent group that raises funds for police equipment and offers other forms of support, also honored entrepreneur Paula Kent Meehan for her community service and support of the Los Angeles Police Department.
